A British couple, Peter and Barbie Reynolds, aged 80 and 76, were released from Taliban custody in Afghanistan after seven and a half months of detention. They were held in ten different prisons, including the notorious Pul-e-Charkhi, and faced uncertain charges throughout their ordeal. While expressing gratitude for their release facilitated by "good, old-fashioned diplomacy" and Qatari mediation, they remain mystified by their imprisonment and the lack of explanation for their detention. The couple, who ran a charity in Afghanistan for nearly two decades, experienced health problems during their confinement but are now back in the UK.
