The European Union is considering accelerating its phaseout of Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports, potentially as early as this year. This move comes after pressure from US President Trump to curb Russia's energy trade. The EU's executive arm, the European Commission, is drafting a provision to include in its upcoming sanctions package that would expedite the LNG phaseout, surpassing the previously planned end date of 2027. A proposal is expected as early as Friday.
