The American University of Beirut (AUB) campus is home to over 1,200 cats, a legacy of years of conflict in Lebanon. Initially taken in during wartime, the feline population has grown, with hundreds more arriving after last year's conflict with Israel. AUB provides veterinary care, spaying/neutering, and attempts adoptions. Though not all are cat lovers, students are required to treat the cats humanely, creating a unique campus dynamic where the cats offer comfort amidst stressful times.
