The FDA has narrowed COVID-19 vaccine eligibility for 2023-2024 to individuals 65+ and those with high-risk conditions. This change, driven by arguments about existing immunity in younger, healthy populations, has made vaccine access more challenging. While some pharmacies may require doctor's prescriptions or proof of eligibility, self-attestation of risk factors is often sufficient. The CDC's upcoming advisory committee meeting (Sept 18-19) will provide further recommendations on vaccine distribution and insurance coverage, which currently remains unclear for some groups. Children's eligibility also varies depending on age and underlying health issues. Vaccine supply is not expected to be an issue.
