Is Kawhi's $28M Deal a Salary Cap Scam?

The NBA is investigating allegations that the LA Clippers used a $28 million marketing deal with Kawhi Leonard to bypass the salary cap. A podcast reported that Aspiration, a company partly owned by Clippers owner Steve Ballmer, signed Leonard to a 'no-show' deal. Seven former Aspiration employees claim the deal was intentionally designed to circumvent the salary cap. The Clippers deny these accusations and say they ended their relationship with Aspiration in 2023 after it defaulted on its obligations. The NBA's investigation is ongoing.
