India turns away from Trump’s America

Trump claimed credit for ending a conflict between India and Pakistan, stating he prevented a potential nuclear war. India, however, insists the resolution was bilateral. Following trade talks stalled, Trump pressured Modi for public acknowledgment, even suggesting a joint White House meeting with Pakistan's army chief, a request Modi refused. India's rejection led to a hardening of the US stance in trade negotiations and later, punitive tariffs on Indian Russian oil imports, despite other nations also purchasing Russian energy.
