Summer Box Office 2025 Gets Clobbered As Overseas Grosses Fall

Hollywood's summer box office underperformed, barely reaching 2024's $3.67 billion despite a strong start. Even big-budget films like Superman and Jurassic World failed to meet expectations. The decline is attributed to several factors: a shrinking domestic audience increasingly preferring streaming, a weakened foreign market (especially in Asia and China), and a surplus of male-oriented films. Studio executives are concerned about the future of theatrical releases, questioning whether the market will ever return to pre-pandemic levels. While some films like Lilo & Stitch and Mission: Impossible performed well, the overall trend is worrying for the industry.
