2 people dead after getting flesh-eating bacteria from eating raw oysters, Louisiana officials say

Flesh-eating bacteria, Vibrio vulnificus, is surging in the US, particularly in Louisiana. Two recent deaths were linked to consuming raw oysters contaminated with the bacteria. Louisiana has seen 22 cases and 4 deaths this year, exceeding the usual average. Warmer ocean temperatures are contributing to the increased risk. The bacteria can cause severe infections, leading to limb amputation and death. Other states, including Florida, have also reported a rise in cases.
