CDC slashed food safety surveillance, now tracks only 2 of 8 top infections

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently reduced its food safety surveillance system, FoodNet, from tracking eight major foodborne illnesses to only two: Salmonella and STEC. This cutback, attributed to insufficient funding, affects 16% of the US population. While the CDC claims maintaining infrastructure and quality, critics worry about reduced disease monitoring and potential public health risks stemming from the Trump administration's budget cuts.
