Is Climate Change Fueling 2025's Mega-Fires? | JQJO

A new study reveals climate change significantly worsened the massive wildfires in Turkey, Greece, and Cyprus in 2025. The fires, Europe's worst on record, were 22% more intense due to hotter temperatures, drier conditions, and stronger winds. Reduced winter rainfall and increased frequency of dry, hot periods exacerbated the situation. Researchers found climate change made these weeklong dry spells 13 times more likely. The study highlights the urgent need to transition away from fossil fuels to mitigate future wildfire risks.
