The International Space Station (ISS), orbiting Earth for over 26 years, gradually loses altitude due to atmospheric drag. To counteract this, NASA typically uses the ISS's thrusters or other spacecraft for 'reboost' maneuvers. For the first time, SpaceX's Dragon spacecraft will assist with this, using a special boost kit. Launched with supplies, Dragon's kit contains two Draco engines that will gently raise the ISS's orbit. This new method adds redundancy to the existing system, ensuring the ISS's continued operation until its planned retirement in 2030. A successful test was already conducted in November 2024.
