Gaza: Leaked recording reveals ex-Israeli military intelligence chief calling 50,000 deaths ‘necessary’

Leaked audio reveals former Israeli military intelligence chief Maj. Gen. Aharon Haliva stating that the deaths of tens of thousands of Palestinians in Gaza were "necessary" for future generations. Haliva, who resigned in April 2024, claimed in the recordings that 50 Palestinians should die for each Israeli killed in the October 7th Hamas attacks. He also blames Israel's political leadership and Shin Bet for underestimating Hamas. His remarks have drawn international condemnation, with leaders like New Zealand's Prime Minister calling Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu's actions "unacceptable." Hamas condemned Haliva's statements, while a UN report last November found Israel's conduct in Gaza consistent with genocide.
