A new at-home nasal flu vaccine, FluMist Home, is now available for children aged 2 and up and adults up to 49. Following a higher-than-usual number of flu-related child deaths this past season, mostly in unvaccinated children, this needle-free option aims to increase vaccination rates. While its efficacy is comparable to injectable vaccines, concerns remain about proper self-administration. The vaccine is available online with a prescription and insurance may cover the shipping cost; a cash-pay option is planned for future seasons.
