Americans alcohol consumption reaches record low, Gallup says : NPR

A new Gallup poll reveals a record low of 54% of Americans reporting alcohol consumption, down one point from 1958. This decrease coincides with growing awareness of alcohol's health risks, even in moderation. Younger adults (18-34) show the lowest consumption rate (50%), with a significantly higher percentage (66%) believing moderate drinking is harmful. Experts attribute this shift to increased health consciousness, societal changes, and the rising cost of alcohol. While some debate exists on whether marijuana use is compensating for decreased alcohol consumption, experts generally predict continued declines in alcohol use.
