The Perseid meteor shower will peak on the night of August 12-13, offering a spectacular display of up to 100 meteors per hour under ideal conditions. While a waning gibbous moon may obscure fainter meteors, bright fireballs will still be visible. Viewing is best between 2 a.m. and 4 a.m. local time from a dark location. A free livestream will be available via the Virtual Telescope Project starting at 5 p.m. EDT on August 12. The shower, originating from debris left by Comet Swift-Tuttle, is visible from July 17 to August 23.
