Alaskan glacier ice dam releases floodwater toward downstream homes

Record flooding is expected in Juneau, Alaska, due to the release of a massive amount of water from a basin dammed by the Mendenhall Glacier. Officials have urged evacuations in certain areas, as the water, accumulated from rainwater and snowmelt, is predicted to surpass previous record levels. This year's flood is expected to reach between 16.3 and 16.8 feet, potentially exceeding last year's devastating flood, which damaged nearly 300 homes. A temporary levee has been installed to mitigate damage, but a long-term solution is still under study.
