Horrific Virus Deforms US Rabbits

Read, Watch or Listen

A bizarre virus, the cottontail papilloma virus (CRPV), is causing grotesque growths on rabbits in Fort Collins, Colorado. The virus, spread by mosquitoes and ticks, creates horn-like and tentacle-like protrusions on the rabbits' faces. While not contagious to humans or pets, wildlife officials urge people to avoid contact. The growths can be benign or develop into cancer. The virus has been observed since 2024, with some rabbits exhibiting the growths for multiple years. Experts advise keeping pet rabbits away from pests to prevent infection.
