Venus and Jupiter appear close in the sky as summer's best meteor shower peaks soon

The Perseid meteor shower peaks early Wednesday, coinciding with a Venus-Jupiter conjunction. However, a bright moon will reduce visibility. Experts suggest viewing a week later for optimal viewing under darker skies. Under ideal conditions, the Perseids produce 60-100 meteors per hour, but this year, expect 10-20. The shower lasts until August 23rd. The next major shower, the Orionids, peaks in late October.
