Perseid Meteor Shower Peak Dimmed by Bright Moon

The Perseid meteor shower, known as the best of the year, peaks August 12-13. However, a nearly full moon will hinder viewing, washing out all but the brightest meteors. NASA suggests viewing from high-altitude, dark locations with minimal light pollution after dark-adapting your eyes. While up to 100 meteors per hour are possible, the moon's brightness will significantly reduce visibility this year. The shower originates from debris left by comet 109P/Swift-Tuttle.
