A 4.56-billion-year-old meteorite, the McDonough Meteorite, crashed into a Georgia home in June, creating a sonic boom. Researchers at the University of Georgia identified it as a Low Metal (L) ordinary chondrite, older than Earth. The meteorite's fragments, some of which are being displayed at the Tellus Science Museum, are being studied to understand potential future meteorite threats. The daytime fireball event was exceptionally bright and rare, visible even across state lines.
