Israel says it killed Al Jazeera journalist, claiming he was a Hamas leader

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) claims it killed Anas al-Sharif, an alleged Hamas operative posing as an Al Jazeera journalist, in a targeted airstrike. Al Jazeera denies this, stating al-Sharif and four other staff members were murdered in a strike on a tent housing journalists. The IDF alleges al-Sharif was responsible for rocket attacks, citing intelligence. Al Jazeera counters that he was a well-known correspondent and that 10 of its staff have been killed since the October 2023 war began. The incident has sparked outrage, with the Committee to Protect Journalists condemning Israel's actions and highlighting its pattern of labeling journalists as terrorists.
