Jen Pawol will become the first woman to umpire a Major League Baseball game this weekend, officiating a series between the Miami Marlins and Atlanta Braves. This follows other groundbreaking achievements by women in officiating major men's sports, including Shannon Eastin in the NFL, Violet Palmer and Dee Kantner in the NBA, and Stéphanie Frappart in the Men's World Cup. While the NHL has yet to have a female official in a regular season game, progress is being made with women officiating at prospect tournaments and the introduction of the term 'linespersons'.
