Brazil's government requests consultations at WTO over Trump's tariffs

Brazil initiated WTO consultations against the US over 50% tariffs imposed on Brazilian goods. Brazil's foreign ministry stated that the US violated WTO commitments, specifically the most-favored-nation principle. The tariffs, impacting 35.9% of Brazilian goods exported to the US, are linked by Trump to former President Bolsonaro's legal situation. While Brazil seeks negotiation, a Brazilian official acknowledged the lengthy and uncertain process. President Lula declined to directly engage Trump, suggesting an alternative invitation to a climate summit.
