Kids and teens who sleep less and use screens more may face higher heart risks: Study

A new study in the Journal of the American Heart Association reveals a link between increased screen time and reduced sleep in children and teens and a higher risk of cardiometabolic problems. Researchers analyzed data from over 1,000 Danish children and adolescents, finding that each extra hour of screen time correlated with greater risk. Teens were particularly vulnerable, and insufficient sleep amplified the risk. While the study shows correlation, not causation, it underscores the importance of balanced screen time and adequate sleep for children's heart health. Further research is needed to explore this relationship in diverse populations and differentiate between active and passive screen use.
