Japan, in its biggest arms deal since WWII, sells stealth frigates worth $6B to Australia

Australia will purchase 11 Japanese Mogami-class frigates from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries for $6 billion over 10 years. This is Japan's largest defense export deal since WWII and strengthens the security partnership between the two countries. The frigates, equipped with long-range missiles, will enhance Australia's navy, bolstering its deterrence capabilities in the Asia-Pacific region. The deal also reflects Japan's loosened arms export controls and its growing cooperation with US allies. Construction will begin in 2030 with the first three built overseas and the remainder in Western Australia.
