Britain affirms support for Palestinian state under 1967 borders

Britain will formally recognize a Palestinian state at the UN in September, based on pre-1967 borders. A new memorandum of understanding with the Palestinian Authority emphasizes a two-state solution, Palestinian self-determination, and the PA's central role in Gaza's governance. This move sharply contrasts with Israel's recent actions, including a parliamentary motion to annex the West Bank and reported plans for full Gaza occupation. The UK's decision follows sanctions imposed on Israeli ministers for inciting violence and comes after France made a similar commitment, marking a potential first for G7 nations. Israel's Prime Minister Netanyahu strongly criticized the UK's move.
