A US citizen, Khamis Ayyad, died in the West Bank this week from smoke inhalation after an arson attack allegedly perpetrated by Israeli settlers. His family and Palestinian officials blame Israeli settlers for the fire in Silwad village. This is the second death of an American citizen in the West Bank this July, following the death of Saif Musallet. The Israeli army investigated but suspects had fled. Separately, a 24-year-old Palestinian, Muin Asfar, was killed in a separate settler attack in Aqraba village. The US State Department confirmed Ayyad's death and condemned the violence, while Israeli authorities are investigating both incidents. Violence in the West Bank has escalated significantly since October 2023.
