Vibrio Vulnificus Cases Rising In Southern US

Gulf Coast states are experiencing a surge in Vibrio vulnificus, a flesh-eating bacteria. Louisiana reports 17 cases (4 deaths), exceeding the typical 7 cases and 1 death. Florida confirms 13 cases and 4 deaths. The bacteria thrives in warm, salty water, entering through open wounds. Immunocompromised individuals are at higher risk, but anyone can be infected. Avoid swimming with open wounds and consuming raw seafood to minimize risk. Symptoms include stomach issues, wound infections, and bloodstream infections.
