In a stunning pre-deadline trade, Padres GM A.J. Preller sent top prospect Leo De Vries and three pitchers (Braden Nett, Eduarniel Nuñez, Henry Báez) to the Athletics for All-Star closer Mason Miller and starter JP Sears. De Vries, ranked No. 5 on Baseball America's Top 100, is one of the highest-ranked prospects traded recently. The Padres acquired Miller, under team control through 2029, and the durable Sears, bolstering their pitching staff. The trade is expected to generate significant discussion within baseball.
