Léon Marchand shattered the world record in the men's 200m individual medley at the World Aquatics Championships in Singapore, clocking 1:52.61. This was over a second faster than Ryan Lochte's previous record. Marchand, who won four Olympic golds last year, strategically chose a lighter competition schedule this year. Other notable wins included American Luca Urlando in the 200m butterfly and Australian Mollie O'Callaghan in the 200m freestyle. However, China's Pan Zhanle, the world-record holder in the 100m freestyle, surprisingly failed to qualify for the final.
