Submersible finds sea creatures thriving in the deepest parts of the ocean

A deep-sea expedition to the Kuril-Kamchatka and Aleutian trenches uncovered thriving communities of tubeworms and mollusks at depths exceeding 31,000 feet. This discovery, published in Nature, challenges previous assumptions about life at extreme ocean depths. The organisms likely survive by utilizing carbon accumulated over time and processed by microbes, rather than relying solely on materials sinking from above. Future research will investigate their unique adaptations and food sources.
