Ichiro Suzuki, the first Japanese-born player, was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame alongside CC Sabathia, Billy Wagner, Dick Allen (posthumously), and Dave Parker (posthumously). Suzuki, known for his humor and work ethic, delivered a speech in English, thanking his supporters and playfully mentioning the one Hall of Fame writer who didn't vote for him. Sabathia's speech focused on family support, while Parker's son read a poem by the late slugger. Wagner and Allen's widows also gave heartfelt tributes. The ceremony, initially delayed by rain, was ultimately a celebratory event.
