At least 21 killed as Islamic State-backed rebels attack Congo church: Civil leader

At least 21 people were killed in an attack on a Catholic church in Komanda, eastern Congo, by Islamic State-linked Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels. The attack, which occurred around 1 a.m. Sunday, also saw several houses and shops burned. A civil society leader reported over 21 deaths, including charred bodies, while the Congolese army confirmed at least 10 fatalities. The ADF, active in the Uganda-DRC border region, has a history of attacks on civilians.
