Lebanese pro-Palestinian militant returns home after 40 years in French prison

Georges Ibrahim Abdallah, a Lebanese pro-Palestinian militant serving a life sentence in France for the 1982 murders of an American and Israeli diplomat, was released and returned to Lebanon. His release, after over 40 years in prison, followed a court ruling that he leave France and never return. While celebrated by supporters in Lebanon who viewed him as a political prisoner, the U.S. Embassy in Paris condemned the release, citing concerns for the safety of diplomats and disrespect for victims' families. Abdallah called for Arab action against Israel's treatment of Palestinians in Gaza.
