With Trump go-ahead, Skydance and Paramount to complete merger in August

Paramount Global's $8 billion merger with Skydance Media is set to close on August 7th. The deal, initially announced in July 2024, has faced intense scrutiny due to perceived concessions to the Trump administration, including a controversial $16 million settlement with Trump over a 60 Minutes interview dispute. The FCC approved the merger, despite concerns about potential influence and censorship. The merger marks the end of the Redstone family's control and incorporates commitments to diversify viewpoints and remove DEI policies, under the leadership of Skydance founder David Ellison. Even with the merger's approval, criticism continues, notably from the South Park TV show, which satirized the settlement.
