Tesla profits slide 16%, despite Elon Musk's pivot back to his companies

Tesla reported a 16% year-on-year drop in second-quarter profits, despite a pivot by CEO Elon Musk back to focusing on his companies. Electric vehicle sales flagged, down 13.5% compared to the same period last year. While the company highlighted its expansion into AI, robotics, and robotaxi services, declining automotive revenue (16%) and increased competition from traditional and Chinese EV makers contributed to the decline. Concerns remain regarding Musk's political activities impacting brand reputation and shareholder governance issues after delaying the annual meeting.
