Russia and Ukraine agree prisoner swap, but little other progress in Istanbul talks

Russia and Ukraine held their third direct talks in Istanbul, resulting in a prisoner exchange agreement of approximately 500 prisoners from each side. Little progress was made on ceasefire terms or a proposed summit between Presidents Zelensky and Putin, despite Ukraine suggesting the inclusion of Presidents Trump and Erdoğan. While Ukraine seeks a full ceasefire, Russia proposes short-term ceasefires. The talks follow Trump's 50-day ultimatum to Moscow to make peace or face severe tariffs. Despite mounting Russian casualties, estimated at over one million, Putin shows no sign of compromising on his war aims.
