Summer Covid cases are rising across the U.S. - Is it time for a vaccine?

COVID-19 cases are rising in several US states, driven by the XBB.1.8.1 variant. The CDC reports increased positive test rates, particularly in the South. While hospitalization rates remain low, updated vaccines targeting newer variants won't be available until fall, primarily for high-risk groups (over 65, or those with underlying conditions). Experts suggest those at high risk should consider getting a shot now, while lower-risk individuals may wait for the updated vaccines. Two annual COVID waves are anticipated, with the current one possibly peaking around September.
