Over 5.2 million above-ground swimming pools sold in the US and Canada are being recalled due to a drowning hazard. Nine child deaths have been reported between 2007 and 2022, attributed to compression straps creating footholds for children to access the water unsupervised. The recall involves Bestway, Intex, and Polygroup pools sold since 2002. Consumers are urged to contact the manufacturers for a free repair kit to replace the straps or to take preventative measures until the repair is complete.
