NYC subway geyser caused by ancient Manhattan stream

Heavy rain caused a geyser-like flooding at Manhattan's 28th Street subway station. MTA Chair Janno Lieber attributed it to aging sewers, but experts point to the station's precolonial marshland location as the primary cause. Built on a former wetland, the area's original topography now channels rainwater directly into the subway system. The aging infrastructure, inadequate for increasingly intense storms due to climate change, exacerbates the issue, raising questions of equitable flood mitigation across the city.
