Here’s how Trump’s tariffs could be impacting prices for US consumers

US inflation surged to a four-month high in June, reaching 2.7% annually, driven by rising prices and the impact of tariffs. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose 0.3% in June, exceeding May's figures and aligning with economists' predictions. While core CPI (excluding food and energy) was slightly lower than expected, it still showed an acceleration. Economists attribute some price increases to tariffs on imported goods, with impacts becoming more noticeable as businesses deplete pre-tariff inventories. Several product categories, including appliances, toys, and video equipment, experienced significant price hikes.
