OpenAI’s Windsurf deal is off - and Windsurf’s CEO is going to Google

Google DeepMind has acquired Windsurf's CEO, co-founder, and some R&D employees, abandoning OpenAI's reported $3 billion acquisition. The team will focus on agentic coding for Google's Gemini AI model. Google will license some Windsurf technology but won't own Windsurf. Jeff Wang becomes Windsurf's interim CEO, and Graham Moreno its new president.
