Health officials in Coconino County, Arizona, reported the first pneumonic plague death since 2007. Pneumonic plague, the most deadly form, infects the lungs and is easily spread. While rare, with about seven cases annually in the U.S., it's treatable with antibiotics. The victim's identity was not released. Plague is transmitted through infected fleas and contact with infected bodily fluids. Health experts advise caution when handling sick or dead animals.
