Giant shoes found near Hadrian’s Wall spark mystery around the soldiers of ancient Rome

Archaeologists excavating Magna Fort, a Roman military site along Hadrian's Wall, unearthed unusually large Roman shoes. Eight shoes measured over 11.8 inches, significantly larger than average for the era. This discovery suggests the fort may have housed unusually tall soldiers. The shoes, along with other artifacts, are providing insights into the lives of the fort's inhabitants, including various Roman military units stationed there. Researchers hope further investigation will reveal the identities of the giant shoe owners, though challenges remain due to the condition of the artifacts and the Romans' cremation practices.
