Akon City Project Officially Abandoned in Senegal | JQJO

Akon City, a $6 billion futuristic city project in Senegal spearheaded by singer Akon, has been officially abandoned by Senegalese authorities. Years of delays, insufficient funding, and the cryptocurrency Akoin's failure to gain traction contributed to the project's demise. While initial plans are scrapped, Senegalese officials confirmed future development on the site will proceed in partnership with Akon under a revised, more modest approach, aligning with the country's preparations for the 2026 Youth Olympic Games. Akon accepted responsibility for the project's mismanagement.
