The men, from various countries including Cuba, Laos, Mexico, and Vietnam, were convicted of violent crimes in the US. Their deportation to South Sudan, a country deemed unsafe by the State Department, was initially delayed due to legal challenges but ultimately allowed by the Supreme Court. Homeland Security celebrated the event as a victory for law and order.
