Pope Leo XIV will spend two weeks at the Castel Gandolfo papal estate, 18 miles south of Rome, for rest and recreation. This follows a centuries-old tradition, though his predecessor, Pope Francis, did not utilize the estate as a summer residence. Leo will make public appearances on two Sundays in July and also spend three days there in August. The papal palace is now a museum, but Leo will reside in Villa Barberini. Castel Gandolfo's public areas will remain open to visitors during the Pope's stay.
