'Extremely high' E. coli levels found at Missouri beaches ahead of July 4th

Missouri's Department of Natural Resources advises against swimming at four state park beaches due to extremely high E. coli levels. The affected beaches are Lake of the Ozarks State Park, Trail of Tears State Park, Harry S Truman State Park, and Wakonda State Park. Elevated E. coli can cause various illnesses. Water samples are tested weekly, and closures are determined on a case-by-case basis depending on the levels of harmful substances.
