Iran made preparations to mine the Strait of Hormuz after Israel strikes, US sources

US intelligence revealed Iran loaded naval mines onto vessels in the Persian Gulf last month, raising concerns about a potential blockade of the Strait of Hormuz after Israeli strikes on Iranian sites. The mines haven't been deployed, but the action suggests a possible attempt to disrupt global oil and gas shipments, a fifth of which transit the strait. While Iran's parliament backed a blockade, a final decision rests with the Supreme National Security Council. The US claims the Strait remains open, attributing it to successful military actions. However, the possibility of the mine loading being a ruse or preparatory measure hasn't been excluded.
