Meteor seen over Georgia, Southeast

A meteoroid, estimated at 3 feet in diameter and weighing over a ton, entered Earth's atmosphere over Georgia on June 26th, 2025. Traveling at 30,000 mph, it disintegrated 27 miles above West Forest, creating a fireball and sonic boom heard across Georgia, the Carolinas, and Tennessee. The American Meteor Society received around 100 reports. While most of the object likely burned up, Doppler radar detected possible meteorite fragments falling near Blackville, Georgia. The event sparked widespread interest, with calls flooding into the Tellus Science Museum.
